I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a happy New Year,www.uggsboots.us.com, and all our Jewish friends had a happy Hanukkah season. The past year marked my first full year of retirement. I had many opportunities to gather with my family, especially for Fourth of July, Labor Day and Christmas Eve, and I enjoyed them very much.Over the past few months, ugg boots, I have been watching the news with great interest concerning officer-involved shootings and other incidents involving use of force. In one case, an officer allegedly shot an unarmed black young man, cheap uggs, and in another case, cheap ugg boots, a suspect was allegedly choked to death, and in both cases grand juries declined to indict the officers involved. However, questions remain as to whether civil rights were violated. The U.S. Attorney General's Office is still investigating.Unfortunately,"Capital in the Twenty-First Century, there were those folks who decided to take matters into their own hands and retaliate by shooting police officers.Fortunately there were no such incidents here in St. Petersburg, but one officer was shot and killed in nearby Tarpon Springs, Fla., and two New York City police officers were shot and killed. What makes this tragic is that when there is an officer-involved shooting or other use of deadly force is that some people will not be satisfied with the results of any investigation that may take place. An independent investigator can investigate any incident involving use of force three ways from Wednesday, which has a branch next to th, but there are individuals and organizations with their own agendas who will not believe the results of such investigations. As a result, folks are sometimes incited to violence. The First Amendment of the Constitution guarantees the right of people to assemble peacefully, but not to become violent.Should officers be held accountable for their actions? Absolutely, but only if found guilty in a court of law just like anyone else. I realize there are officers who should not be wearing a badge, and sometimes good cops go bad. However, those instances are rare. I have found, in my coverage of the Ridgecrest Police Department, the Kern County Sheriff's Department and California Highway Patrol for more than 20 years, that those officers are very dedicated professionals and,, like law-enforcement officers in other communities, deserving of respect.I know there were cases in which local police officers and former officers were suspects, including two child-molestation cases. In those cases, they were held accountable for their crimes.I hope 2015 will be a good year for Ridgecrest and the Indian Wells Valley. Happy New Year.
